The Montreal Heart Institute’s Teaching Division recently launched a website designed to support continuing medical education (CME).
The Montreal Heart Institute received the support of the MHI Foundation, Pfizer, and Sanofi-aventis for its CME website http://dpc.icm-mhi.org, which was created by multiple-media.com. Cardiology professionals will now be able to view scientific conferences, thus earning CME credits since this activity is now recognized as part of their mandatory continuing education. Via the CME website, they can also:
- test their knowledge
- consult various specialized documents
- interact with other professionals
- ask questions
- post comments
The website also hosts:
- a blog
- forums
- a well rounded conference calendar
- a specialized on-line publication, La Cardiologie contemporaine

“The use of information technologies offers two major advantages, explains Dr. Annie Dore, Director of Teaching at the MHI. “First, professionals will no longer have to travel for their training needs, since the material is available 24/7 on the Internet. This will save them precious time, which they can devote to their patients or their research. Also, thanks to information technologies cardiology professionals can use the blog to interact in a knowledge-sharing approach.”
The DPC website is powered by the various Web 2.0 applications of the MMCM suite, owned by multiple-media.com. “We are proud to help the MIH carry out its very proactive view of Web communications, as we have been doing since 2004,” said Renato Cudicio, president of multiple-media.com. The present project is no exception: this is one of the first French CME websites in the world where cardiology professionals can hone their knowledge in such a flexible context.”
The videoconferences are generally on line for two-week periods. The scientific program of the website is managed exclusively by a scientific committee chaired by Dr. Annie Dore and affiliated to the University of Montreal.
